Cyborg Identity

Introduction

What is cyborg identity?

- Identity: who or what something or somebody is.

- From the overview page, cyborg is a combination of mechanism and organism.

- Cyborg identity: who or what the part-man, part-machine is.

- "A cyborg identity is an identity that only exists in the chat room. It can only exist there as it is enabled by and through both the technological and social aspects of a chat room. Only where the technology permits and the social agreements exist."[4]

How does a cyborg identifies himself?

- From the past till today, human identifies himself or herself by gender.

- Human are being identified through their gender for different social positions, power and how they have influenced education, social and economic choices in life.

- We are also identified by our IC number, ATM pin number, student number when we use any computerised machine. And these are data collected about us which people called it digital effigy.

- Cyborg can be also identified by numbers, probably their serial numbers or the date when they are being "built" or "born". A simple analogy is a newborn baby, who is identified by his or her birth certificate number. Hence, a "newborn cyborg" can also be identified in the same way.

- Cyborg may also be identified by gender.

- “Gender identity, like identity more generally, is a complex interweaving of a variety of different influences: biological factors that are influenced by the environment … and social factors that are influenced through our understandings of biology … the way we construct our identities is strongly influenced by feminine and masculine characteristics associated with the gender categories, men and women.”[1]
